What to look for when choosing baby clothes?

This week in Mom's Land, we will talk about choosing right clothes for your baby.

One of the most enjoyable moments for every mom and dad is to go shopping for the baby and choosing beautiful clothes for his/her adorable tiny body. However, they may be less aware that there are important things to consider, from the material to the style of sewing, when selecting clothes for a baby.

Baby clothes should be cotton. The clothes made up of soft and natural fabrics do not irritate the baby's skin. They should also be wide enough so the baby comfortably moves with the clothes. There should not be stitches on the knee part as it will disturb the baby when he crawls. The clothes should not prevent arm and leg movements.

When you are buying clothes, you should be careful that the arm, collar and waist openings are not stiff or tight. Also, be careful not to buy furry clothes; because babies are curious and take everything they grasp to their mouths and the threads may be dangerous. When choosing your overalls and pajamas, choose the ones that are opened from the tummy. This way, the diaper changing can be done more practically. Instead of clothes with elastic bands, or buttons, prefer the shoulder-clenched, flexible collar, front-opening overalls.

Socks of the babies should also be soft and comfortable. When choosing shoes, you should choose orthopedic shoes that will not be to tight for the baby.

Pay attention to buy clothes according to the length of your baby, not to your baby’s age. Since babies go through a rapid growth stage, their size will not stay the same.

Use specially produced detergents for babies.

You can use specially produced detergents or soap powders for baby clothes. You should choose perfume-free, colorless, hypoallergenic detergents that do not harm baby's skin and respiratory system. Take care to wash your baby’s clothes separately from your clothes. Dry the clothes once they are thoroughly soaked. Do not use naphthalene when you are storing the clothes. Before washing clothes, you should read the instructions on the detergent thoroughly.

Your baby may be sensitive to a certain allergen. When you see a symptom, you should consult a doctor.
