Your newborn baby has grown up, got used to life day by day and now crawls by starting to move on her own. After a while, she will stand on her feet and start walking. This shows that it is time to take some precautions at home. You should be aware of the risks of fragile items that might attract your baby’s attention, and the objects that might be used as a step to reach dangerous places like high shelves. In this week’s Mom’s Land article, here are some of the precautions you can take at home for crawlers and toddlers: 

• If you have furniture or cabinets with removable panels or doors, make them childproof, using cabinet locks if possible;
• Electrical plugs are one of the items posing the highest risk. Therefore, you should use plug protectors;
• Walls or sharp corners can be dangerous to babies and toddlers during this period. Use appropriate protective objects to help prevent accidents;
• To prevent your baby from being squashed, make sure you leave enough space between large objects in the house;
• Generally, the bathroom has a slippery floor, and is one of the most risky places in the home for children. For this reason, ensure that the bathroom floor is not slippery;
• Also in the bathroom, put chemical cleaning products in a place where your baby cannot reach. Putting detergent, soap and shampoo on high shelves or in locked cupboards will be effective in eliminating this risk;
• From the moment your baby starts walking, she will be extremely mobile and will want to use every area and every item of the house. So, as in the bathroom, you should take precautions in the kitchen. Initially, you can start by removing sharp and dangerous objects like knives, forks, glassware etc. from your baby’s sight;
• One of the precautions you should take in the kitchen is keeping your child away from dangerous devices like the oven. While working in the kitchen, ensure that your baby isn’t close to these devices and try not to be distracted;
• As toddlers move fast, they might slip or trip on an unfixed carpet. Flooring materials in all parts of your house should be attached securely to the floor.
