Tip On Teaching Your Baby How To Walk

Every child is unique and so each child takes his own time to walk. There is really not much you can do about it before your baby is ready. Your baby will approach this incredible milestone in her own good time. So the key is that you should never hurry your child towards those first steps.

There are scores of factors that comes into picture when it’s about standing, cruising and walking. It is not only dependent on your child’s confidence and motivation, but also depends on her muscles development and co-ordination. If you try to rush through things, you will only discourage your child and may even slow her down.

Your toddler will walk when she is ready. Many babies are able to stand holding on to something. For us (adults) walking is a means to move from one point to other. But for your baby this newfound mobility is quite different and so she will be more interested in exploring her surroundings than following you. If your toddler has just started walking, have you noticed that she does most of her walking when you are sitting at one place? But as soon as you get up, she stretches her arms up to be carried. Don’t worry. A time will come when your child will happily trot along beside you when you go for a walk.

Here are some of the things you can do to make it easier for your child to learn walking:

  • As soon as your baby is able to lift her head while lying on her tummies, place interesting toys and objects to encourage her to reach out for them. This will help her develop strong back muscles, needed for walking.
  • Once she is able to sit, help her practice mobility and balance by rolling a ball back and forth with her. This will motivate her to lunges forward or crawl and in the process will help her develop strong neck, legs and arms.
  • Once she is able to stand, help her walk in front of you by holding her hands. You should also occasionally let go of one of her hands so that she can experiment with balance.

As your baby learns to walk, you should take all security measures to ensure she is safe as she tries to explore the world around her. Here are some security tips that you should follow to make her surrounding safe.

  • Remove all the sharp objects and any injurious thing out of her reach.
  • Remove table, chair or any furniture items with sharp corners that may injure her.
  • Install safety gates at the top and the bottom of the stairs.

It is obvious to be excited to see your baby walking, but you should try to be patient. The only way you can help your child learn walk is by encouraging her, creating a safe surrounding and wait.
