Tips for Soothing Your Teething Baby

This week on Mom’s Land we are going to discuss ways in which you can help soothe your teething baby. It’s an amazing time, full of excitement to see your baby sprout her first teeth. But for your baby it could also be a long and painful process. Every child is different when it comes to teething and so you will need to try many different things until you find something that works for your baby. Here are some of the ways in which you can help make teething easier for your little baby.

Give your baby something to chew on

One of the first signs that your baby is teething is that they start to chew everything that they get hold of. You should always watch your baby so that they don’t chew hazardous or unhealthy materials. You can give your baby healthy things to chew such as raw fruits and vegetables. Make sure you always stay close to your child in case they choke.

Teething rings to chew on

Teething rings are good options to help your baby have something to safely chew on. Not only it will ease your baby’s discomfort, it will also distract her from any pain.

Gum massage

If your baby is more than four months old, you can rub teething gel on her gums. Teething gums helps numb any pain or discomfort caused by teething. Teething gels also have antiseptic property and can prevent infection in any sore skin in your baby’s mouth. Make sure you use only teething gels formulated specifically for babies. Don’t use general oral pain relief gels meant for adults. Use clean finger to gently rub your baby’s gum for about 2 minutes at a time. Sometimes babies resist even though they may find it soothing.

Play with your teething baby

Comforting a teething baby or playing with them can help distract them from pain in their gums. It is normal to see a baby feeling irritable or restless during this time. Sometimes change of scenery or fun activity can help change their mood and distract them from teething pain. You can give your baby warm water bath to help her relax or you can even give her some unexpected cuddle time.

Preventing rashes

Some baby dribble more than usual when they are teething. You should frequently wipe your baby’s chin and rest of their face to prevent them from developing a rash.
